16. Second Paper Introduction

From his autobiographical poem, Tintern Abbey, we find that strong feeling Wordsworth has towards nature:

Nature never did betray

The heart that loved her,”

He liked to enjoy nature landscapes, monunted on the hills and walked through isolated valleys enjoying the nature. In his advanced age, the nature played a big role in his life and so it did in his writing as we can see in poems like The World Is Too Much with Us” (1807) and “London, 1802(1807) . The poems, ‘I wandered lonely as a cloud‘, and ‘The Solitary Reaper’,focus on the idea of the beauty of nature and he returns to the idea of the artificial life in the city. These poems are examples of how much the author loves nature and in them William Wordsworths explains the importance of nature since people become selfish and immoral when they distance themselves from nature by living in cities. Besides, the relation between man and nature appears almost in all his poems.

Childhood in another important topic when talking about Wordsworth’s main themes in his poems. ‘Intimations of Immortality‘ ode is his materpiece on the subject where Wordsworth talk about the importance of infancy and the process of growth. In the fifth stanza, he writes:

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting…

Not in entire forgetfulness,

And not in utter nakedness,

But trailing clouds of glory do we come

From God, who is our home….”

Childhood and nature are always themes that are related in Wordsworth’s poems as we can see throught this briefly introduction.  Other poems important to analyse when talking about childhood are ‘ Strange fits of passion have I known‘ and ‘She dwelt among the untrodden ways‘. A third theme to highlight in this author would be the importance of the Romanticism; he was one of the pioneers of this period as he show the audience how the society was and the way of life of his time.
